CUBE’s fall 2012 concert and 25th anniversary celebration featured Morehead conducting two chamber ensemble works by Peruvian composer Jimmy López and accompanying soprano Henriët Fourie in a performance of López’s song Viaggio a ti. The concert at Grace Church in Chicago was attended by the composer, who has been commissioned by Lyric Opera of Chicago to compose a new opera for the 2014-15 season, and by world-renowned soprano Renée Fleming, Lyric Opera’s Artistic Consultant. The chamber ensemble, which performed López’s Fiesta! and Avec Swing under Morehead’s baton, was composed of members of Chicago’s New Millennium Orchestra, CUBE members and guests.

Morehead to conduct Die Zauberflöte

Maestro Morehead conducted two student performances of Die Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute) at Lyric Opera of Chicago on January 26 and 28, 2012. The cast included Paul La Rosa, René Barbera, Kiri Deonarine, Jennifer Jakob, and Audrey Luna with the Lyric Opera Orchestra.

Morehead conductor and pianist on new CD

Morehead appears as conductor and pianist on a new CD, Good News Falls Gently, works by composer Patricia Morehead, recently released by Navona Records. The title work, a setting for voice and orchestra of poetry by Regina Harris Baiocchi and sung by soprano Jonita Lattimore, is a recording of a live performance conducted by Morehead for CUBE Contemporary Chamber Ensemble. Morehead also appears as pianist in several works on the recording.

Mo. Morehead conducts new work by Gustavo Leone

On August 31, 2011, Mo. Morehead conducted Words and Music, a new music theater work by Chicago-based Argentinian composer Gustavo Leone. The work was broadcast on Chicago station WFMT at 4pm on Wednesday, August 31, 2011, with soloists Don Forston and Brian Shaw and the Spektral String Quartet, production directed by Henry Godinez.

Morehead conducts at Festival Lyrique-en-mer

In August of 2011 Maestro Morehead returned to the Festival Lyrique-en-mer on Belle-Ile, France, to conduct performances of Donizetti’s L’Elisir d’amore. The cast included tenor Artavazd Sargsyan, soprano Katrina Thurman, baritone Keith Harris and bass Andrew Nolen and was directed by the festival’s founder Richard Cowan.

On June 29 and July 1, 2011, Maestro Morehead conducted two in-house performances of Mozart’s Così fan tutte with the fabulous young artists of Lyric Opera of Chicago’s Ryan Opera Center, directed by Loren Meeker and played by Craig Terry and Alan Darling.

Morehead has joined the board the the Conductors Guild, a music service organization devoted to the advancement of the art of conducting and to serving the artistic and professional needs of conductors. The organization, founded in 1975, has nearly 1,600 members worldwide.
